The vase pattern originates from 17th-century Safavid Kirman workshops: clusters of palmettes and lotus flowers rising from a vase depict a paradise garden along the vertical axis. Afghan artisans combine this heritage with the faded Sultanabad palette of Ziegler merchants; wool dyed with plant extracts is washed in sunlight and running water to achieve an antique patina.

The inner border is a small floral frieze on a walnut shell background, the outer border is an ivory meander. The turquoise background shifts to teal green and Aegean blue depending on the light.
