The Story Behind This Rug
Oversized palmettes are a testament to the weaver’s boldness; the larger the motif, the less room there is for error. The deep green, achieved by layering indigo and yellow plant dyes, lends these palmettes the depth of a forest.
Why Choose a One-of-a-Kind Handwoven Afghan Rug
- Uniqueness: There is only one of this rug; its exact knotting rhythm and dye batch can never be replicated.
- Plant-dye durability: Unlike synthetic aniline dyes, root dyes do not fade—they simply soften over time.
- Ghazni wool: Long-fiber, lanolin-rich wool from high-altitude sheep offers natural stain resistance and a silky sheen.
- Asymmetrical Persian knot: Finer detail resolution and crisper motif edges than the Turkish (Gördes) knot.
- Investment value: Genuine handwoven rugs dyed with plant-based dyes gain value through generations of use.
Color and Pattern
Cinnamon, honey, and cream oversized palmettes flow diagonally across the deep green ground, framed by a fine cream border. It anchors the look of a spacious living room on its own and pairs elegantly with leather and wood.
Care Recommendations
- Vacuum on a low setting with a brushless attachment.
- Blot spills immediately with a white cotton cloth; do not rub.
- Rotate 180° every 6 months to distribute sunlight and foot traffic evenly.
- Leave wet cleaning to a rug specialist experienced with plant dyes.
Afghan handwoven rugs are not “manufactured”—they are “woven.” This piece is no exception: it will be sold only once, and no other home will have an identical one.

Protect Their Elegance
To preserve the original splendor and silky texture of Carpetdocia’s handwoven, natural-fiber creations that bring value to your living space for generations, adopt a gentle care routine.
Immediate Action and Liquid Spills
When spills occur, timing is critical. Use a clean, slightly damp cloth to lift the liquid from the surface by gently blotting only - never rub. Always work in the direction of the rug pile (the fibers’ natural lay). Rubbing can damage the shape of delicate fibers such as TENCEL™ and viscose. If in doubt, stop immediately.
Routine Care and Light Balance
For your weekly cleaning routine, always use vacuum cleaners with low suction power. High-powered upright vacuums and stiff brushes can damage the natural structure of handwoven yarns. To balance natural fibers’ reaction to light and prevent localized tonal differences (fading), we recommend changing your rug’s direction every 2 to 6 months.
The Expert Touch (Professional Cleaning)
Noble fibers such as handwoven TENCEL™, viscose, and New Zealand wool should not come into contact with household chemical cleaners. These products can irreversibly damage the rug’s silky sheen and structural integrity. For a thorough clean, seek help only from professional rug care centers specializing in natural fibers.
Washing Instructions
The exquisite pieces in the Carpetdocia collections are not suitable for machine washing due to their construction. (Only specific models explicitly labeled “Washable” in their name can be washed in home washing machines using a low-temperature, delicate cycle.)
